Tuition & Fees (Fall 2008 - Summer 2009)

Tuition assessed through the Division of Continuing Education is in addition to any other tuition assessed by the University. Colorado residency status is not a factor in determining online, distance, or off-campus tuition rates; however, residency status is a factor in determining tuition rates for some on-campus credit courses.

Tuition rates vary by course level, undergraduate or graduate. Tuition for credit courses follows these base rates unless one of the exceptions (below) is applicable:

Undergraduate (Level 100 – 499): $249 per credit
Graduate (Level 500 – 799): $429 per credit

Distance media such as DVDs, VCDs, and videotapes may not be included in the cost of tuition and must be purchased from the CSU Bookstore at an additional cost.

Resident / Nonresident Classification

Under the Colorado "tuition law," the term in-state student is defined as:

A student who has been domiciled in Colorado for one year or more immediately preceding the first day of classes for the term for which such status is claimed.

The term domicile is a legal term used to describe the place where a person has chosen to make a true, fixed, permanent home. A domicile includes physical presence and evidence of intent and must be established for 12 months on, or prior to, the first day of classes. You can only establish domicile for tuition purposes in Colorado if you intend to reside permanently in the state, and meet the definition of a "Qualified Person." You may obtain a copy of the tuition law from Student Financial Services.

Colorado State University must follow the rules set forth in the Tuition Classification Statute, and is not free to make exceptions except unless specifically permitted under the Statute.

In-state residency applies to all credit courses held on-campus including those offered through Continuing Education. The initial classification is determined by the information you supply with registration. By law, the burden of proof is on you, the student, to provide clear and convincing evidence that you have created a Colorado domicile for the required 12-month period and that it is your intention to remain in Colorado. You may be called upon to provide additional information regarding your in-state residency status or to submit a petition to the University to review your domicile further.

Any student who provides false information to avoid paying "nonresident" tuition may be subject to legal and/or disciplinary actions.

Contact Student Financial Services for a copy of the tuition law, petition materials, or for more information. Also check common questions and answers about qualifying for Colorado residency provided by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.
