Up, Up, and Away in My Beautiful Balloon. So it was or so it will be. From the first look see at the earth from a balloon basket, we now venture into a new century where satellites track much of our life on earth, making location a more exact science. Google this class - sign up that is - and you are in for a grounding-breaking experience in basic geotechnology.
Geotechnology is identified by the US Department of Labor as one of the three "mega technologies" for the 21st Century (the other two are Nanotechnology and Biotechnology). It is having a mega-impact on society. Have you ever wondered about how GPS works? Or how to access satellite imagery of the world? Or how farmers use auto-steer to guide their tractors and apply fertilizers that vary " on-the-fly" as they move throughout a field? Or how to automatically link digital photos and video to their precise map locations?
Tools will be demonstrated that allow you to do all of these things. You will be exposed to how to use GPS, internet mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and multimedia mapping (using your own photos as the basis). Join us to learn the basics of a field that promises to forever change how we interact!
