Description

Ever wonder how to navigate through timber to a rocky point above treeline? Are you willing to spend the night out under the stars in the company of others exploring the value of wilderness experiences?

The Wilderness Leadership course may be the right choice for you. The mountains of Colorado become the classroom for this exploration of wilderness leadership. Being safe and competent in the out doors is more than technical skills, it involves a deeper understanding of yourself and other in an adventure context. This course involves 14 evening sessions supported by three field trips.

Important Information

This course is a hands-on Tuesday night course with three field sessions. First field session: Wilderness Backpacking September 20-21; Second field session: Rock Climbing October 25; Third field session: Challenge Ropes Course November 15.

Rodney Ley, M.Ed., is the director of Colorado State's Outdoor Adventure Program. As an outdoor instructor since 1974 Rodney brings over 30 years of guiding, instructing, and leading in the outdoors to his teaching. Rodney has lead international mountaineering trips since 1991, most recently to the Everest region in Nepal (May 2008).

Patrick Rastall, Ph.D., is the director of Colorado State's Pingree Park Mountain Campus and an affiliate faculty member in the Warner College of Natural Resources. He has taught wilderness leadership courses since 1989 and has led over 20 international mountaineering climbing expeditions since 1977 including Denali in Alaska and Aconcagua in Argentina. Pat has climbed all but one of Colorado's 14ers and twice completed the Leadville 100 race.
