NR 501 - Leadership and Public Communications

Prerequisite

Introductory course to natural resource management fields, communications course (speech, writing, journalism).

Description

This course provides students with tools necessary to understand the publics who impact natural resources management and how to communicate with them and resolve conflicts. Students develop public relations plans and communications products for local organizations that seek to address the wants, needs, and communications strategies necessary to provide proper education and leadership to targeted publics.

Written assignments and two proctored exams are required.

This course can be applied towards the:

• Agricultural Extension Education (M.Agr.)
• Natural Resources and the Environment Certificate
• Rangeland Ecosystem Science (M.S.)

Delwin E. Benson, Ph.D., is a professor and extension wildlife specialist in the Warner College of Natural Resources at Colorado State University. He teaches on campus about public relations in natural resources policy and takes students on field wildlife studies. He also teaches distance learning courses through Continuing Education.
