MU 155 - Guitar Class I

Fundamental techniques for guitar emphasizing chord study and related literature are presented. Areas of study include chords, right-hand picking and strumming patterns, exercises, theory as applied to the guitar, history of the guitar (physical development of the instrument, as well as playing styles), reading musical notation plus tablature, basic rock and blues rock, and blues solo and rhythm techniques. Concepts learned in class will be applied to songs and appropriate chord progressions.

Tom Noonan has been a professional musician and teacher for 30 years. He has played guitar and banjo in various folk and bluegrass bands since 1970, in addition to being a solo artist. Tom has been teaching in Fort Collins since 1976 and holds a Master of Arts degree with academic emphasis in teaching adults and the history of 20th-century popular music styles.
