This course is one of three courses designed to help you learn what's involved in starting a small business, how to plan and finance that business, and basics of setting up a website and eCommerce functions for that business.
These courses are:
BSLL 1005 Starting your Small Business
BSLL 1006 Financing Your Small Business
BSLL 1007 Websites and eCommerce for Small Business
Do you have a dream to be your own boss and start your own business? If so, you are in good company. In fact, small businesses form the largest segment of the world economy. Since the growth of guilds and home industry in the middle ages, small businesses have been a part of our cultural fabric, and an indispensable part of our communities.
Like most people who have considered starting a business, you are probably concerned about giving up a steady paycheck from your present employer, worried about the long hours and responsibility that you may not have to shoulder working for someone else, or are wondering if you have what it takes to succeed.
This is a condensed course for prospective entrepreneurs, designed to show you the tools you need without slowing you down with a lot of theory that may or may not apply to your particular situation. In addition to the course content, resources are provided for you to explore and learn as much as you chose to beyond the scope of the lessons.
This course was specifically designed to be a self-study course, completed at your pace and your convenience. YOU are the final evaluator of your success; no assignments need to be turned in, and there is no formal evaluation. The goal is simply to help you systematically work through the steps of developing a small business.
Although most students finish the course quickly, students are given access to the course for six months after registration to use the course materials as a reference.
Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
