ARLL 1002 - Chain Making

Noncredit / Summer 2008

Delivery/Location: Fort Collins

This workshop introduces four different kinds of non-soldered chain making: Etruscan Chain, Idiot's Delight, Woven Chain, and simple Chain Mail. Jump loops will be fabricated, or prefabricated ones can be used (these must be provided by the student). Students will create samples of each style of chain that can easily be completed independently of the course.

Tools needed will be a jeweler's sawframe, 2/0 blades, flat-nosed and chain-nosed pliers. Tools will be available for check-out.

A $20 materials fee covers copper and brass wire. Silver wire must be provided by the student. Gauge and length of wire will be determined by type of chain.

Noncredit courses do not produce academic credit nor appear on a Colorado State University academic transcript.
